audrey ii: a photo gallery
this is seymour with pod three. the plant is approximately four feet long, two feet thick and three feet wide. the operator is sitting on a stool with her upper body inside the shell. her left arm controls the upper jaw and her right arm controls the lower jaw. pod three was light enough and small enough to controlled very precisely, enough to simulate vowel shapes despite the fact that the lips did not articulate.
this is seymour with pod four. pod four is around six feet long, four feet thick and four feet wide. the puppeteer is entirely inside the plant, masked by the red fabric which forms the interior of the mouth. on the left is a long tentacle which is operated by two additional puppeteers sitting directly behind the plant. the tentacle can be articulated in all three dimensions, but has no mechanism to un curl the "forearm" portion. the bottom edge of the mouth fabric was not attached, and so pod four was capable of swallowing people. the victims slid down the throat head first and between the puppeteers legs.
